Concepts and Paradigms: Tropical and Sidereal Zodiacs

Image
When it comes to the use of zodiacs in astrology, I don't take an exclusionary or separatist approach, because from working with both #zodiacs for several years now, I have come to believe that the popular "either/or" dichotomy is a false one.  As #astrologers, I offer that we would be better served in taking a solutions-based approach with the aim of better understanding, thereby developing or evolving how we use these tools.  This is an informal talk I gave to the Association for Young Astrologers on 15 April 2018, presenting some contextual thoughts and foundational ideas around the interplay and use of the #tropical and #sidereal zodiacs.  Full video on Spica Astrology YouTube channel: Watch the video by clicking on this link https://youtu.be/eVy5qTYaumg?si=kSausflwoshtjHIo

Horoscopes for Venus Rx and Feb 2017 Solar Eclipse

Image
Important : This week’s Horoscopes have far-reaching significations because it is the week of a Solar Eclipse at 08° tropical Pisces which leads into the larger Venus Retrograde cycle which ends toward the end of April over the signs Pisces and Aries. So, you should read these horoscopes as indicating those activities that should get started this week, which have consequence over the following months to the end of April. The period of the Venus Retrograde shows a deep call for personal cleansing in an area of life that is needed, and in which we will be resolving and incorporating new insights for the rest of the year. *****PLEASE BOOKMARK THIS PAGE TO REVISIT THESE TOPICS AND CONTEMPLATIONS  EARLY APRIL 2017 AND EARLY OCTOBER 2017***** VENUS RETROGRADE (03 March - 16 April 2017) Venus Retrogrades form part of the Inferior Conjunction between Venus and the Sun, as seen from the point of view of the Earth. At the inferior conjunctions, Venus is between the Earth and the ...

Keep it Simple: The Sun as Vocation

Image
In many cultures around the world and through history, the Sun was a symbol of life, vitality, well-being, and health, and leadership. In the development of astrology in the 20th century, astrologers conceived of the Sun as a symbol for the purpose or construct of personality or ego. The way I conceive of the Sun in the context of natal astrology, is that it encapsulates or contains the idea that the cause or spark of our existence, drives our living time to fruition and fulfillment of the intent that set it in motion, so that the Sun becomes both the cause and the effect of the public personality, of the person in the world. In this article, I would like to explore this in a very simple way: by looking at the Sun in a chart and its associations. Traditional astrologers will know there exists a host of techniques for determining vocation in the literature. It is not the aim of this article to explore each of these. Instead, this article is going to focus exclusively on the role t...

A Study of the 125th Consideration of Guido Bonatti

Image
n studying Vedic Astrology, there are simple aphorisms associated with a chart depending on the Rising Sign presented. There is a similar view presented by the 13th Century astrologer, Guido Bonatti in his 146 Considerations: “The 125th consideration is that you look to see, in nativities or questions, what sign is ascending: if it were the sign of a planet having two domiciles, the native or querent will be engaged in those things which are signified by the other domicile of that planet, and its accidents will happen to him easily, and he himself will be the reason why they will happen to him” (146 Considerations, Guido Bonatti, translated by Benjamin Dykes). The text then goes on to present some descriptions for the following rising signs: Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Virgo, Libra, Scorpio, Sagittarius, Capricorn, Aquarius, and Pisces. Bonatti doesn’t provide descriptions for Cancer or Leo rising, because the Sun and Moon don’t have rulership over other signs (although I personally ...

Where are the Lost Concert Tickets?

Image
A friend had purchased quite expensive tickets to the recent Michael Buble concert in Cape Town in March 2015, however they were misplaced or lost on the day of the concert and herself and her husband didnt end up going. Nevertheless, we still asked the question: "Where are the lost concert tickets?" and I proceed to give an answer with Astrology. The tickets are signified by Saturn (ruler of 3rd or 4th house in this case). Saturn is on the Ascendant (exactly) at 4° Sagittarius - yes, the loss of the tickets especially monetary loss is on the mind of the querent (note that Saturn rules the 2nd house of money, the 3rd house of writing, and the 4th house of lost objects). This describes the situation, and hence the chart is radical. Saturn is in Sagittarius. Sagittarius is a mutable sign - the object is contained within something. Sagittarius indicates: mens' clothes, not on the floor, near heat or light source, metal object (inside metal object perhaps?), close to the wal...

Life and Death: Princess Diana

Image
Prediction of death is not an easy affair and a very grave (pun not intended) issue to be treated with utmost respect and sensitivity. The following is a textbook example for the sake of illustration only. In all sensitive predictions, we have to allow for some leeway in birth time in terms of minutes or seconds that would correspond to months in "real" time as well. I am only discussing the aspects of her natal chart that are pertinent to the time we are looking at. Diana Natal The Part of Fortune is Hilaj. Jupiter is Kadhkudhah. Jupiter is succedent, Retrograde (minor affliction on its own), with the conjunction of Saturn reducing by 29.55/3=9.85 years due to its dignity. Hence gives Median years = 45.5-9.85=35.65 years (March 1997). We can say that until March 1997 the years of life will partake of the vitality indicated by the Hilaj. After this time, the life force is vulnerable. In 1997, the profected Ascendant comes to Sagittarius, making Jupiter the Lord of the Year in...
